IDRF is a really great organization if you want to support a cause or project that is close to your heart!
IDRF focuses on smaller projects, usually one’s when an individual donor has expressed an interest in a particular area. You can contact them, tell them what kind of project you are interested in and they will match you up. IDRF also solicits feedback from Board Members and donors who travel to India and personally visit some of these projects.
My wife and I wanted to support a charity that focusses on Children. Through IDRF we found the Surabhi Boys Orphanage. The project is small enough that there are no websites or fundraisers associated with it, but the children are in desperate need of our help. We are very impressed by the transparency and efficiency with which IDRF functions. Their overheads are extremely low (which is rare for most similar organizations in the USA!) and almost 96% of the money we donate goes straight to the orphanage. Our experience with IDRF has far exceeded our expectations and made giving back to the needy a cinch.
