Review for Magic Bullet Fund Inc., Yorktown Heights, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

When I first met Juhoo he was in a plastic shopping bag with his deceased sister, having just been tossed out the window of a moving vehicle. I immediately took him to a vet who gave him a clean bill of health for a 7 week old pup. My other half, of 18 years, had passed away about the same time, so I chose to make that date Juhoo's birthday. (It's also my birthday)
Juhoo helped me with the loss I was feeling and our bond grew closer as time passed. He had no objections to being my very spoiled son. My girlfriends spoiled him as much as I did.
This past March, while he was demanding attention from one of these girlfriends, a lump was discovered in his neck. The next morning he was off to see the vet. That was when my world was shattered - He had Lymphoma. Without treatment he had 6-8 weeks to live.
The only Oncologist in Fresno comes from out of town once a month and that was not acceptable. I located an oncologist in Campbell, 150 miles away, who would see Juhoo that week, but I don’t have a car. One of my girlfriends agreed to drive us. They confirmed the diagnosis of Lymphoma and recommended the LCHOP protocol at a cost of about $7,000. Juhoo started his 26 weeks of treatment that day. My girlfriend said she would drive us each week but I had no idea how I was going to be able to afford the cost.
Week 7 found Juhoo in remission but my savings was about depleted. Juhoo needed more treatments and there was nothing I could do. After everything we had gone through, I felt like I had failed him and that cancer was going to take him from me.
Then along came Magic Bullet Fund. Like a Guardian Angel. There to pick me up when I had fallen. They helped me raise the funds to continue Juhoo’s treatments, but more than that, they provided encouragement. They informed me of additional ways I could help Juhoo fight Cancer. They welcomed us into their family. Every person I came into contact at MBF showed genuine concern and compassion for what we were going through. It was like they had known Juhoo for years.
The fundraising part only lasted 30 days yet I am still in constant contact with one member of their staff or another. They want continued updates on his condition and they all joined me in celebrating his 7th birthday in June. Had it not been for the Magic Bullet Fund I fear there would have been no reason to celebrate. Juhoo is still in remission with only 4 treatments remaining. I pray his remission holds but the odds are not in our favor.
Magic Bullet Fund has helped prepare me for the future by providing the tools needed to continue this fight. They have made me aware of the varied situations that I might encounter in the near future. I feel it is easier to handle a situation if you have time to prepare for it, rather than it sneaking up on you and hitting you blindsided. The most valuable thing they have given me is the knowing that they will be there for us, no matter what the future holds.
Last week they called me about being a volunteer with the organization, which I consider an honor. Not only will I be able to give back to those that have given so much to me but I will become a part of an organization that will profoundly affect many others in the future.
