As a farmer in Botswana and a landowner near Seronga where the elephants died I have seen the total destruction of vegetation done by elephants since 2015 when the drought started.
It is obvious that during 2019 in the peak of the drought the Seronga and Megotho areas was the worst affected and reaped.
The wlephants are eating the bark and the plants have retaliated by producing poison in their barks to protect them.
It does not affect cattle as they are eating the leaves only.
