Review for Gabriel House of care , Jacksonville, FL, USA
When I found the Gabriel House of Care I thought it was simply going to be an affordable place to stay after my stem cell transplant. I had no idea that this house was going to become a home to me and my mother who was my caregiver. The employees, volunteers, and other guests became family to me. There was so much love, support, comfort, and just truly genuine care and consideration among everyone who walked through those doors. I could go on about the affordability of a place so close to the hospital, or the cleanliness of the house, which I and so many others needed during healing. But it was the people and the feeling of belonging, comfort, and joy that radiates through the home that make this house something so extraordinary. It was the employees who visited me in the hospital. It was the volunteers who came in to serve dinner to the guests. It was the guests being there for each other and supporting each other through hard days and being together to celebrate the good days. I was 25 when I first came to the Gabriel house. It has been 6 years since I first stayed and I am now 5 years cancer free. I owe a great part of my healing to the experience I had during my months living in this home, with these people who showed unwavering love and support every single day. I am grateful to them and the lifelong friendships that we have made.
