Every time I visit a typical cat shelter, often crowded or have cats in cages, a thought pops in my head: “my cats will not survive here — scary hissing, smells, everything is overwhelming!” My first impression of Hearts That Purr was “wow, this place really feels like home!” HTP is truly a sanctuary for senior cats who are often considered not adoptable and possibly put on top of the euthanasia list due to age-related medical issues. At HTP, residents (it’s a retirement home, not a shelter!) have plenty of personal space and peaceful environment.

Whenever I visit the residents, they amaze me how affectionate they are. Most kitties at HTP once had humans who loved them dearly. Seeing them keep their loving nature tells me that they feel at home, thanks to staff and volunteers who provide lots of love and care. I am delighted to find an organization like Hearts That Purr and get involved as a volunteer!
