My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for NED Scholars, Troy, MI, USA
I would like to take this review as an opportunity to share my journey with NED Scholars. I got introduced to NED Scholars back in 2016 by one of my friends in the Software Engineering Department of NEDUET, who took me to an online Webinar in NED. After conversing online with Dr. Sohail, I found him as an extremely sincere mentor. I started communicating regularly via emails with Dr. Sohail gradually, and that led me to confide in him the hardships I was facing financially.
Being the eldest brother of 4 younger brothers, and a responsible son of a middle-class breadwinner father, I automatically had to take the steps from my matriculation onwards to support my family finances. Starting from small scale tuitions to teaching Physics as my favorite subjects in renowned institutes of Karachi, I strived hard to balance my time between studying and earning. But the scholarship amount granted each year regularly by Dr. Sohail served just right enough for me to allocate more time towards studies and projects and a meager amount of time to earn for my family's necessities.
What I adored about NED Scholars was their vision and commitment towards mentoring and grooming young NED pupils for their upcoming professional life. To fulfill this purpose, they would conduct online webinars from technical certifications like "Six Sigma" to the psychological well-being of students. I also got a chance to get mentored by Mr. Yusuf Ali Hasani (C.Eng., CMRP, CAMA), a seasoned reliability and maintenance professional, who introduced me to Reliability, Asset Integrity Management and Risk-Based Inspection under the umbrella of API 580/581. I still bear fruits of his invaluable mentorship in my professional life.
Today, I serve as a Trainee Energy Engineer in a vertically integrated organization, namely, Yunus Textile Mills Ltd. I am involved in the upkeeping of reciprocating assets from Wartsila, Jenbacher, etc. I am responsible for the maintenance of boilers fired by coal, gas, and waste heat. This diverse experience is going to appear in my periphery as I move up the technical ladder of my career.
Along with my professional life, I work closely with Dr. Sohail in the supply chain of laptops distributions to my Junior NED Scholars fellows, help identify potential scholarship recipients, and participate in regular meetings in NED Scholars Karachi Chapter. These small participations are a mere expression of payback for what I have received from NED Scholars in my most needed times.
Lastly, I urge all the donors to keep the support system active and expand it in your circles. Your single scholarship can change the life of many deserving families by producing one successful engineer who is well aware of the corporate world around him.
