Review for Homeward Bound of Marin, Novato, CA, USA
I volunteered with a group of girlfriends to help paint a stairwell at the family homeless shelter in San Rafael that is run by Homeward Bound. We worked together to get the job done and then were showed around the hotel where the families stay. It was a humbling experience for all of us. Marin is a very affluent community and is hard to imagine living homeless in this area. I ws grateful that there is someplace for families to go when they need a place to stay. After our painting project, the volunteer coordinator invited us back to the Homeward Bound facility in Novato where we had lunch with the residents and a tour of their fabulous facility, which helps to get people back on their feet. They train residents for restaurant positions, help with resumes, provide shelter, etc. We were so impressed. They also have an organic chocolate making business. We were put to work washing out chocolate molds (not easy when you are just using water!) for the business. The Homeward Bound program provides real help for those in need of shelter and a helping hand in our community. I was thankful to be able to help such a terrific organization.
