I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in April 2019. I am now over 9 months out from transplant and while there have been bumps in the road, my last biopsy was clear and my body is beginning to heal! I am officially in remission. We are so thankful for all the support we have received along the way from friends and family and organizations like Leukemia Texas. When we first began this journey, we had no insurance and acquired about $800,000 in medical debt. Thanks to God's provision, several financial assistance programs helped erase the majority of that. We are down to about $8,000 in medical debt now, as well as ongoing monthly expenses. We were able to acquire insurance and I qualified for a grant that helped me pay for half my premium, but all of our expenses have increased beyond our income. We are so thankful that Leukemia Texas has been a part of that provision by providing us with grant money that has been essential to helping us make ends meet. We are able to pay our utilities and put food on the table during a time when many aren’t. The generosity of everyone that has donated to Leukemia Texas is appreciated beyond what I can ever put in words. Thank you all for helping my family to survive leukemia!"
