Review for Educational Pathways International, Incline Village, NV, USA
I am Afi Ahornam Akumani, a sixth year medical student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. I joined the Educational Pathways International Scholarship Scheme in the year 2015 and it has been nothing short of amazing. Joining the EPI family has been life changing in so many ways.
First of all, EPI has made my dream of becoming a doctor a reality as I am just a step away from graduating. Being a part of the EPI scheme helped reduce my financial burden tremendously hereby giving me the peace of mind to focus on my academic work.
I have encountered on this scheme, smart brains and friends I would keep for a lifetime. EPI family is made up of students who are academically good, self-driven and this has served as a motivational factor for me always. Core values of discipline, preparedness, integrity and hard work have been learnt and these are values I would hold onto for life. In addition to this, I have gained knowledge in other aspects of life outside the classroom that is very relevant to my life outside of school all from the important topics discussed during EPI family meetings.
As an aspiring general surgeon, I take pride in the joy that comes with touching lives and putting smiles on the faces of patients. It has always been my passion. Studying BSc Human Biology (MBChB) is the stepping stone to making this a reality. I have so much appreciation in my heart for EPI for the hope they brought me and making this successful.
After school, I would serve my country with all diligence as a Doctor. I want to help in building a robust health care delivery system for Ghana for better health outcomes. Also, I want to help fix the major health care challenges in Ghana and give back to the society that has raised me to becoming who I want to be.
My sincerest gratitude goes to EPI for all the assistance it has extended to me. This academic journey would not have been possible without them.
