As a volunteer with AWLA, I have had the privilege of working with cats, dogs, and small animals. What makes AWLA unique is the amount of training volunteers must undergo before ever interacting with the animals. We are taught about the animals’ body language, physical and emotional needs, and how best to take care of them. As a result of the careful attention paid to them, the vast majority of animals that come through the shelter are able to be adopted. I have also been a foster to a dog and cat. Currently, my foster cat is helping me get through these challenging times far more than I am helping him by providing a place to live. Thank you to AWLA for enriching so many animals’ and volunteers’ lives including mine!
