Review for Partnership With Native Americans, Addison, TX, USA
In Fall 2019 I was invited to partake in a PWNA's 4-Directions program as a Volunteer Key (Mentor). This program fosters leadership development within tribal communities, and this particular Fall 2019 Cohort was an exclusive Tribal engagement with The White Mountain Apache Tribe.
From October 2019 through January 2020, with the support, guidance, and resources provided by PWNA, I along with five other Native American Professionals engaged a group of nearly 30 middle and upper level program and government administrators employed by the White Mountain Apache Tribe (WMAT). WMAT's Tribal Administration primarily employs citizens of their Nation which resulted in a 100% Native American cohort, talk about true self-determination.
This engagement was embraced by all participants, mutually collaborative, and synthesized excellent outcomes while strengthening our collective Indigenous community's network. Communication with members of our designated sub-cohorts throughout the months were designed to support participants with their SMART Goals, consult with them on challenges in the work place and reinforced with monthly in-person training and workshops. We were able to build great one on one professional relationships.
I would recommend Tribal Administrations look to this program to continue to strengthen their internal capacities, competencies, with intent to build stronger Tribal Nations.
I'll be proud to serve again if asked to in the future.
