Review for Fleet Of Angels, Denver, CO, USA
Dalai was in a dire situation - her 90+ year old owners were medically unable to care for their animals, and she had gone without food or water. Discovered by a neighbor, we were called (Dharmahorse Equine Sanctuary) and we got her here immediately! Fleet of Angels helped us with a hay grant to get the alfalfa we needed to safely refeed Dalai. At 25 years old, she has a grade 4 heart murmur, and we do everything possible to keep her healthy and safe. She gained 250 pounds (she is 18hh!) and is getting muscles, strength back. She is sweet and loving, a favorite of volunteers. Dalai is here for life.

We are so grateful to Fleet of Angels for the grant that made it possible to get Orchard grass hay for a mare we have in sanctuary at Dharmahorse. The mare (Annie, an OTTB in her late twenties) had stopped eating. Nothing we tried tempted her. We get Bermuda and alfalfa hays here in southern NM. She wouldn't touch either of them. We tried soaked pellets, senior feeds, dry pellets, a host of combinations... she was in trouble. We Vet examined her and floated her teeth. Dewormed and started dosing B12 and Vitamin E and electrolytes. We had Teff hay (low calorie/sugar) for metabolic horses... I tried it on her and she ate it - but Teff won't sustain her. I was up north and bought some Orchard grass hay, brought it home and she ate it! FOA stepped in with a grant so we could get a big load of the hay she WILL eat and now she is gaining weight. We have saved her life.

FOA has helped us with hay donations more than once and we are so grateful! It is not easy running a sanctuary and having compassionate help when things get scary means SO much!
Thank you, DharmaHorse, for your nice words. We're happy to help any time we can when horses are at-risk due to a crisis. Covid-related challenges hit so many rescues hard, and fortunately we were able to help keep thousands of horses fed during that tough time. Hope your 2021 and forward are less challenging. Very best wishes, Elaine N.
