What a wonderful week we all had. We were fortunate to serve with wonderful volunteers from Kansas City. We worked side by side with Mission Guatemala outstanding staff members starting to build an outdoor recreation site for a small community who had requested our assistance in meeting a need in their community. I learned new building skills, was able to interact with children and adults from the community we were serving, got to build new friendships with others who served with us, and was able to see first hand the wonderful things Mission Guatemala does in this area of Guatemala.
One outstanding characteristic of Mission Guatemala is the way they ask a community what they feel are the needs of the community and then act on meeting those needs with assistance from the community itself.
I also enjoyed being able to learn more about the culture of the area by visiting other communities in the area on the weekends.
