Review for Episcopal Communities Foundation, Inc. dba Episcopal Place, Birmingham, AL, USA
When performing certain duties in a resident's apartment, I was able to create an atmosphere where she felt comfortable enought to share with me her life story. In her last months at Episcopal Place , she deteriorated and showed signs of dementia as well as physical issues. I soon realized how important it was for me to listen to her whether it was a new story or one she had already shared with me. Through this experienece, I learned that residents need attention and someone to listen. I realized that sometimes staff is the only someone to do the above listed tasks. I learned patience and how to listen as well as how to slow down and appreicate the people in our lives.

The relationships I have made with residents and families while assisting them in adjusting to life at Episcopal Place. I see how these relationship benefit the residents and create a more home like experienece for each of them.

I would like to see an exercise room with modified equipment for people with disabilities as well as a trained staff person or physical therapist available to assist the residents when needed.

What is unique about this organization?
I really like to see the residents enjoying the common areas and each other. Also they have begun to form groups like art class, BINGO, bridge, poker, etc without the constant supervision or input of staff.
