Review for Family to Family Network, Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As a mother with a special needs child, I struggled understanding and navigating the school ARD process. Everyone had a smile and seemed friendly enough that I felt that my daughter was in good hands. Little by little I was realizing that I needed help. Family to Family Network helped educate me and answered all my questions. I was then able to take that knowledge, apply it and make myself a true member of the team, so that my daughter could receive the services she needed. I was also able to pass the knowledge along to other parents who needed guidance. I refer parents to F2F for further educational needs and feel great about it because I know they are in good hands.

Navigating my child’s special education gave my anxiety. I wondered if I was doing the right things, asking the right questions, or over looking things. I felt at time taken advantage of by the school district. Enter Family To Family Network, they educated me in areas I had no idea I needed to know about. They built up my confidence and empowered me with the knowledge to never feel lost at an ARD meeting again. They even gave me one on one education when I had specific questions and needed more explanations to better understand the topics. My children are in a much better place now because I have the ability to navigate their educational plans knowing I am doing right by them thanks to everything I learned through Family to Family Network.

One month after being discharged from a 3 month hospital stay for brain surgery, my then 1 year old son, my autistic 4 year old daughter, husband and I experienced Harvey’s flooding rage. We had to be rescued in raft, we loaded the kids & covered them up as it was raining, we loaded my sons medical equipment, medical food, diapers, and some stuffed animals to keep them calm. Luckily we were taken to a church that was next door to a hotel which my sister immediately booked for a week stay over the phone. We were lucky to have a sister who was financially able to help during a time we were tapped out due to the hospital stay.
Family to Family Network stepped in right away assessing my family’s immediate needs & long term needs to make sure we had everything we needed to care for the kids from medical equipment to some toys. I will forever be grateful for their assistance helping my family pull through this experience.
Our house was damaged to the point we could not stay there. We were out our home for 6 1/2 months. On the weekends we stayed at my sisters house one hour away, then during the week we stayed at a friend’s house who lived close enough to my Daugter’s school so i was able to take her to school everyday okay.
Months later, even years later this organization continues to follow up with my family helping me better understand their disabilities, navigate the system, and provide opportunities my kids would have otherwise never had. Just recently, having learned that our house was still not completed and portions were still unsafe for the kids, they reached out and paired us with the correct people to get it finished.
This organization truly is a Family to Family Network, they always make me feel like part of a family and we are always in their thoughts.
