Review for Community Access to the Arts, Inc., Great Barrington, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I'm a certified yoga teacher who has worked with people with special needs for over 10 years and have never worked with an organization that's so dedicated and professional yet warm and fun. Everyone involved - from the founder (Sandy Newman) and the artistic director (Dawn Lane) to all the office staff and teaching artists are committed to make each experience productive and fulfilling for each participant while providing a supportive environment for all the staff. As a teacher, my ideas are always welcomed and that the office door is always open to me. More importantly, I've seen the participants, whose conditions and abilities cover a huge range, increase their confidence, develop their own creative voice, strengthen their bodies and improve coordination and social skills. I have witnessed participants grown in mind, body and spirit - you can tell they look forward to their classes - they arrive happy and excited and leave feeling rewarded and relaxed.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In my class, there were individuals who started feeling awkward w/ their bodies, but they trusted that a CATA experience would be a safe one & plunged in. Some started out only doing chair yoga now practice on mats feeling more comfortable with their balance getting up & down. Others have developed relaxation skills that they use when they're not in class. Overall, the participants have improved strength, coordination & self-image.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I can't think of any, expect adding more classes and opportunities to reach more communities.

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & Teach yoga.
