Review for UCP Central PA, Camp Hill, PA, USA
My experience with UCP Central PA goes WAY BACK - beginning in the mid-1960's. My daughter was born in 1959 with Cerebral Palsy. The cause was discovered (through brain surgery) as a birthmark covering the motor control center of her brain. Miraculously, it did not affect her speech muscles. but she was spastic quadriplegic so could never walk. She could use her right hand, so she was able to feed herself and do some other things but she would always be dependent on others.
She started physical therapy and speech therapy at the UCP facility that was on 34th St. in Camp Hill, three times a week. There were volunteers to drive her there and home when I couldn't do it. Time passed and UCP started their Community Living Program - she was one of the first to be invited to participate in the program. She lived in a home in Enola with 3 other residents - each had her own bedroom and they shared a living room, kitchen and dining area. My daughter worked at Goodwill Industries, was able to participate in many outside programs, and learned the joy of semi-independent living. She "passed on to a freer life" in 2013. Through UCP she had a much fuller life than I ever could have given her.
UCP has professional, caring employees and offers so much to persons with special needs. I would recommend their services to any family or individual who has the need for special services. Not only the Community Living Program, but also daily programs for those who can still live with their families.
Review for UCP Central PA, Camp Hill, PA, USA
The reason I volunteer for UCP is due to the great service they offer persons with UCP. My daughter was diagnosed with UCP when she was an infant, and she was taken into the UCP center on 30th St. in Camp Hill - (a long tome ago)! where she was given physical therapy, speech therapy and learning experiences by loving professional staff. As an adult, she is currently residing in a UCP-run home where she receives all the care she needs PLUS. She attends Alternatives during the week, has outings to church, shopping and many more activities that would not be possible without UCP. I am thankful to UCP for giving my daughter a well-rounded life.
