Review for Labrador Rescuers, San Diego, CA, USA
We adopted our dog through Labrador Rescuers, and we could not be happier with our pup Indy. Trish helped us through the process and was very helpful and responsive to our questions.
The overall process is pretty straightforward. You fill out an application and then get assigned someone to help you with the next steps which includes a home visit to review your application and make recommendations to consider about your house and yard. It's a good idea to review the website and have some preferred dogs picked out to discuss and your desired temperament, age, color, etc.
From there you can monitor the website and look for dogs you are interested in, as well as attend the monthly adoption events. Fosters ultimately decided if they will adopt the dog out, so it does require patience and definitely don't get attached to the first dog you see because it may not work out. In the end, we found our new boy Indy on the website and visited the foster's home with our other dog so we could meet Indy and introduce them. Trish helped facilitate all discussions.
We decided to adopt him and came back the next day to pick him up and fill out the paperwork. A few things to consider - make sure you have payment ready when picking up your dog, as well as essential items like a collar and leash. I'd advise making sure you already have food, toys, etc or pick them up on the way home. They will provide you with medical records of the dog which will include any vaccines or surgeries they performed while in their care.
Adopting a rescue dog can be intimidating and it is certainly a lot of work but Lab Rescuers are full of great people who really want to ensure the dogs go to a good home and find the right fit. They do great work!
