I recently volunteered at the Roberto Clemente Clinic in Nicaragua. It was a life changing experience. I do not have a medical degree so I supported the pharmacy and was able to see first hand the tremendous support the clinic gives to the communities surrounding it through medical care, water treatment plants to provide safe water, gardens to provide fresh vegetables, educational programs to promote healthy living, and diabetes clinics that focus on all aspects of controlling this disease. The staff is wonderful - caring and professional. From the beginning I felt that I was part of the team. I would wholeheartedly recommend spending a week no matter what area of expertise the volunteer has.
