Review for CURE International, Inc., Grand Rapids, MI, USA
Two summers ago myself and 18 others boarded a plane for the Dominican Republic. We took 38 suitcases and carried two air filters through airports and security. We had no idea what to expect when we landed. We never thought our lives would be so transformed. Cure allowed our team to work in the hospital in Santa Domingo and took us to orphanages around the city. We wept as mothers carried their children in for free services. We took pride in cleaning stairwells were families were standing with their children to see a Dr. We smiled and laughed with patients in recovery as we gave them toys and baseballs. Cure is doing a wonderful life changing job not only in Santa Domingo, but in 9 other hospitals world wide. Cure allowed our entire team to view others that do not have medical care and opportunities that we do in the US. We were so impressed in every aspect. Our team leader was informative and relational. Our translators explained the culture as well as helped us speak to our new friends. The staff at the hospital put in long hours and worked from morning until night. The adults were so moved by this experience. I feel Cure gave our teens a life long lesson of how blessed we are in our country. Cure is doing an amazing job by reaching those who do not, nor will ever have the means for medical care or surgery. They allow people in need to come to a facility to find hope and healing. They are treated with dignity and respect and walking out the door with new possibilities for their life. Cure is changing lives around the world. It simply was my honor to see a few of the lives they are changing each day.
