My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for The Borgen Project, Tacoma, WA, USA
This "nonprofit" grossly misuses interns. Each intern is unpaid but is expected to raise $500 through the course of their internship. This means badgering family and friends to raise these profits. They assign titles to each intern (HR, political affairs, etc) but they all do the same thing, which is tell people about this "project" and raise money themselves with little guidance. Their budget is hard to find, but if you look at their statement of activity for 2018, very little of the funds are used for legitimate purposes other then paying their CEO and management (maybe half actually goes to the cause). You should not have to pay to work for a nonprofit. I can not confirm this, but apparently you can not get reference letters, recommendations, etc despite raising $500 for them. I really believe many of these reviews are fake. This is a great cause, but they are using it as a front for profit.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would not force interns to pay to work. Especially if the majority of my spending has nothing to do with fighting global poverty. This "nonprofit" uses college students for money. It takes advantage of them. Why do you need more money from one of the poorest groups in America when talking to legislative representatives requires very little money?
