Review for People Working Cooperatively, Inc., Cincinnati, OH, USA
I have been volunteering for People Working Cooperatively (PWC) for about 8 years. Early in my volunteer work it became apparent that many of our clients have mobility issues, due either to age or previous medical conditions. PWC provided early training to us to look proactively for issues such as the need for handrails, grab bars in tubs, and trip hazards. Clients are sometime not even aware of the fact that they are living with a potential issue. We have encountered and fixed such issues as missing or weak steps into basements, no handrails into basements or to upstairs bedrooms, baths with weak or missing grab bars, the need for grab bars around toilets, and exterior steps that are broken, or need a handrail. We have also been involved in installing ramps for wheel chair access. In one case, we renovated a house to make it fully ADA compliant. This included widening doorways changing the bathroom design, eliminating some interior walls, etc. PWC also does a very good job of supporting its volunteers. In addition to providing all materials, we have easy access to the professional tradesmen in the event that we need technical support.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Restoring clients to a safe living environment...and letting them know that someone cares!!
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I have been highly pleased with the support and encouragement that volunteers get, the flexibility of the organization in letting me volunteer whenever I am able, and improving work processes so that we are able to spend more time n the field, and less time with administrative details. As a volunteer, I do not have any specific suggestions.
