We are so impressed with the present accomplishments of the Pogo Park non-profit, and the plans they have for the future--they are literally transforming the City of Richmond CA in terms of the playgrounds, green spaces, even streets close to schools, turning them into safe and inspiring play and learning spaces for children and young people of the area. From the start Toody Mayer involved the community in the planning and development, first with Pogo Park itself. We visited the park one day, and talked to a grandfather who had lived his whole life in Richmond, watching his granddaughter playing joyfully on the climbing structures and he said "I'm so inspired; I never thought something like this could happen here". Many adults of the community participate in the programs and events and are uplifted, really proud of the place they live. We think Toody Mayer should inform others in other parts of the country on what is working so well in Richmond--this success should spread!
