Review for ZERO Prostate Cancer, Alexandria, VA, USA
When you're passionate about something, it's important to remember your WHY. Why are you passionate, why did you get involved in the first place, why are you still involved. My WHY started out as my brother Terry and he is still why I am passionate, why I am still involved. Terry may not be here anymore, but I am ... and I am still passionate. But, in addition to your why, you need to remember your HOW. ZERO Prostate Cancer is my HOW. ZERO gave me a platform and a voice. A platform to speak out about the need for early detection and treatment for prostate cancer. A platform about why we need changes in the manner in which prostate cancer matters are handled across the medical and insurance paradigm. ZERO has given me the tools to learn, to grow, to advocate, to educate others about this difficult disease. Terry's journey is over, but mine is not ... and neither is ZERO's. ZERO is not just their name, it is their mission, their mantra, and their passion too. ZERO has allowed me to turn my pain into purpose - and they continue honoring my WHY ... my amazing brother Terry and the legacy he left behind.

How do you tell an organization how much they mean to you? As a 501 c 3 ZERO is more than 5-stars ... if I could give them 100, it would still not be enough. My brother was an advance-stage prostate cancer patient ... a totally uncharted avenue for me. ZERO and their staff walked EVERY step of this journey with us. They celebrated our small victories, helped guide the newest treatment paths ... and cried with us when the prostate cancer won. They continue to advocate for research funding, equitable treatment for all men, support and educate both men and their caregivers, and strive to make a difference in the medical arena for this scourge of a disease. ZERO has my heart today - and will always. I will remain a faithful advocate for them and their mission til prostate cancer is no more. Terry is my reason why ... ZERO is my how!

I have been actively involved with ZERO for the last 7 years that began simply with participation in the 2013 5K Run/Walk. I was so impressed with their dedication, personal touch and commitment to making a difference in the lives of men and their family that I have made ZERO my charity of choice for all of my resources, time and talents. Since that first introduction, I have attended their annual Washington, DC Summit where protecting prostate cancer research funding and educating the attendees about prostate cancer are the main focuses. My commitment to this organization is deeply rooted in ZERO's focus on compassion, intent to serve, and patient assistance - from the top of the organization on down. They love, they care, the serve, they cry and celebrate. And having been a caregiver/advocate for someone who succumbed to this disease - I would not have been able to make it through the experience without my ZERO family. They have my heart for all eternity … wish I could give them a million stars!!
