Such a great organization, especially our local chapter in St. Pete, Florida which serves hundreds of Veterans both at the VA and within the community each month. This program offers Veterans the opportunity to engage in stimulating activities and crafts both in a group setting and within their home. These are craft kits and opportunities that Veterans, otherwise would not be able to afford without the generosity of HHV. As a recreation therapist we rely heavily on HHV kits to provide unique opportunities to Veterans who are new into treatment and exploring their interests. Veterans often don't know where to begin when exploring creative outlets and learn healthy coping skills. As we know, trying different hobbies usually entails spending a lot of money on supplies and teaching yourself how to do it. Most Veterans choose not to because of tight budgets, lack of motivation, or inability to self teach themselves the skill. HHV craft kits takes those barriers away by offering them a wide variety of options, with instructions to assure successs and without spending a lot of money. It opens the door and I've seen many Veterans take their experience with these kits to the next level and really pursue a new found passion in leather work and wood work. We are very grateful for HHV resources, especially the HHV specialist that provide the supplies and education!
