Review for CHOICE Humanitarian: Center for Humanitarian Outreach and Intercultural Exchange , Draper, UT, USA
Being involved with CHOICE Humanitarian gives me the opportunity to help people in poverty solve their own problems and achieve lasting change through increased knowledge, experience, and access to resources. I know all of our seven in-country directors and many staff members (all native to each country), and I have witnessed their dedication and sacrifice as they work with village communities to organize and work together to help the extreme poor among them lift themselves to a better quality of life. I have visited communities in Nepal, Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Peru and spoken with people who have changed the trajectory of their lives through entrepreneurship training and mentoring from CHOICE facilitators. In the accompanying photo I am with Radhika Pariyar, a young widow, member of the untouchable caste in Nepal, who started a chicken and goat business after receiving training and mentoring from CHOICE and a loan from a local cooperative which CHOICE helped organize. She became respected in her community and after participating in CHOICE leadership training, she was elected to public office!
