Review for MEXICO MEDICAL MISSIONS, Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Can you imagine building a full service hospital in the Sierral Madre mountain wilderness of northern Mexico, to serve the Tarahumara indigenous people group, who are so poor they can't afford to pay a dime for the life saving medical care received. Well that is exactly what missionairies Dr. Mike Berkeley and his wife Maci Berkeley did in the year 2000. The hospital serves ten thousand patients a year, free of charge. Services provided include everything from treating malnutrition for infants, to midwives for births, surgeries as complicated as hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery, dentistry, tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment and more. I have been a volunteer, donor and board member for many nonprofit organizations over my lifetime and this organization ranks #1 among them all.

Review for MEXICO MEDICAL MISSIONS, Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Mexico Medical Missions is a wonderful and courageous group of American and Mexican medical missionaries providing free acute care hospital and community health services to the Tarahumara Indian people group in the remote Sierra Madre mountains in Northwestern Mexico. They have achieved dramatic reduction in rates of infant mortality and Tuberculosis. They also provide free agricultural training to improve nutrition and water well drilling in these arid mountains where safe water for drinking and cooking is in short supply.
