For a live theatre to thrive in 2019 it must remain vibrant and relevant--to do it in a town of 750 in rural Minnesota it has to be something more; it must be substantial, nimble, and above all it must maintain an excellence of both performance and service. The Commonweal's 30 year history of thriving in the heart of Bluff Country speaks for itself, but their propensity for programming work that consistently challenges and delights must be pointed out. At a time when more and more theatres are programming to the lowest common denominator it's refreshing to see a company trusting their audience to go on a journey with them. That they have earned that trust and continue to foster it is a rare occurrence in American Theatre, and one that must be applauded.
