Review for Amal Alliance Inc, New York, NY, USA
When COVID-19 struck, Danielle De La Fuente and her team hit the ground running. Due to a climate of overwhelming uncertainty and anxiety, it was immediately clear to her that she needed to find a solution for providing socio-emotional learning and psychosocial support to vulnerable communities, including refugee and migrant children and their caregivers.
She knew that the use of technology was the only way to do it, and it had to be made available worldwide.
With a consortium of partners, she created a podcast series with versions in English, French, Spanish and Arabic, as well as worksheets which can be accessed by Whatsapp and other platforms.
Activities and games on the podcasts do not require materials and cover topics such as hygiene, empathy, tolerance, patience, and healthy expression – geared to reinforce emotional well-being.
This is truly an innovative and timely COVID-19 Response program.
Congratulations and thank you to Amal Alliance!
Review for Amal Alliance Inc, New York, NY, USA
Danielle de la Fuente leads AMAL Alliance with inspiration, knowhow and optimism. She networks with skill and confidence at international, national and local levels to engage partners and share tools and knowledge to meet the educational and socio-emotional needs of the increasing number of refugee children.
One of the most impressive strategies of the initiatives in Greece, Lebanon and Turkey is the effort to create programs that are culturally competent, address trauma, and developmentally appropriate, while keeping in mind that forcibly displaced children may be on a different developmental trajectory, in some areas, in respect to their peers.
Another strong strategy is flexibility - in terms of modifying curriculum based on feedback from the children, teacher and parents/caregivers.
Resilient refugee youth are among those who were cared for and had educational opportunities in early childhood. This is what Danielle and her team are working to accomplish for the youngest refugees.
It is a pleasure collaborating with Danielle on advocacy for Early Childhood Development.
Best wishes for continued success!
