Review for Helping Children Worldwide, Chantilly, VA, USA
I learned about the great work of Helping Children Worldwide (HCW) in Sierra Leone when my husband visited their facilities in Bo, Sierra Leone, a few years ago. In July 2018 and again in July 2019 I had the opportunity to go and see first-hand the important and compassionate work that is being done by HCW. About 600 extremely vulnerable children are supported by funds so they can go to school, receive medical care, and have case workers to monitor them and spiritually mentor them -- this allows these children to live in family care and not in orphanages. In addition, their families are able to participate in micro finance programs and parenting programs. Mercy Hospital, as part of HCW, provides health care to many hundreds of children and adults, regardless of their ability to pay, through their infant nutrition, pre and postnatal care, malaria, and HIV/AIDS programs, as well as in other medical needs in Bo and in over 50 surrounding villages. This medical care has also included building wells and latrines where there is great need for clean, safe water. HCW is guided by a staff (in Sierra Leone and the US) and a board that is knowledgeable, dedicated and passionate to its mission and ministry. I am privileged to volunteer and to be an advocate for this work that changes the lives of some of the poorest families in the world.
