The Spirit Open Equestrian Program has brought our family closer within the community we have lived in for years. The mission of the program was started to serve special needs children/students through equine assisted therapies. To be applauded, the vast majority of the therapy horses have been rescued, primarily from kill-pens. The program offers so much more. Community teens can volunteer to earn required school service hours. They receive the benefit of learning horsemanship, experiences with those in the programs, and the joy of being outside. Our family has volunteered for many years now. We have found this to be so much more. Summer weekly camp programs are also offered through Fairfax County Parktakes. The program also serves our Veterans. Spirit Open Equestrian Program’s mission is amazing and benefits our entire urban community.
