Review for KIDS KICKING CANCER INC, Southfield, MI, USA
I began the program at age 7 when trying to get my infusions done were next to impossible from the fear of needles and my will to fight nurses. One of the sensei's went to one of my appointments and there was a huge difference. I did not know that I had been poked, and the nurses did not forsee the blood flow. I am still part of the program about 12 years later at 19 and can say that they take in anyone facing any pain, and it helps with my sickle cell, moya moya, epilepsy and teenage anxiety. They're always there for everyone. If I was worried about something or scared about a procedure, I could call someone and get immediate advice or coping skills. The coping skills work for any situation, whether it's stress, upsetting seizures, pain or anxiousness. The class that I go to on Thursday is well worth the drive because it's just like group therapy. Everyone is relatable even with our health differences and differences in abilities. Everyone grows to be a family here. I have two older brothers, one older sister, and a mentor from this group. I also became a mentor to the younger kids, and have received thank you letters from California. They also hold fun events like the holiday party where everyone gets huge gift packages for the entire family and the kids. The Halloween party is also one of my favorites since it's a perfect chance to run around in costumes and get entire pillowcases worth of candy. The summer party is also fun whether you swim, fish, do crafts or just chill in the hot tub after enjoying the food. All of these events have dance parties, which I find fun. The demonstrations that we go on to teach the world have brought us to a lot of fun places. We used to have gala events, and there are at least three golf outings per summer, and camp michigania which everyone looks forward to. We've also taught lawyers how to powerbreathe and I was once invited to teach people at a glass gallery how to powerbreathe. I can't think of a demonstration that wasn't fun. I even got to teach techniques via Skype to a branch trying to start up in Wisconsin. When I was still a little kid, I managed to lead an entire group of indifferent to annoyed teenagers in powerbreathing. The group also raised my confidence and will to try.
