Review for San Diego Brain Injury Foundation, San Diego, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

When I first contacted SDBIF, the former CEO, Kurt, arranged to come to my home and complete a very thorough needs assessment. He helped identify resources, assistive technology and community organizations that could potentially meet my needs. For example, He helped me locate wheelchair transportation through FACT.

SDBIF has fabulous monthly activities like the Day of Art, Support Group and Resource Meetings.

During COVID, I signed up for the Day of Art and they sent me an entire painting kit with paints, brushes, and canvas--then we met together via Zoom to learn how to paint. The teacher was so kind and low key that I discovered a new interest and talent I'd never explored before. Since then, I've really developed this talent through art therapy. One of my paintings was was featured at the SDBIF Walk.

SDBIF staff and board clearly care about people in San Diego living with brain injuries. My only suggestion for future improvement would be to become involved in Advocacy efforts to educate about all kinds of brain injuries and their prevention.

San Deigo Brain Injury Foundation helps me explore and discover life's joys after traumatic brain injury.

Review for San Diego Brain Injury Foundation, San Diego, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The San Diego Brain Injury Foundation is a tremendous supportive resource for people living with all forms of brain injury in San Diego. When I first connected with them, the Executive Director arranged a face-to-face meeting with he and a staff member. They completed an intake and then generated a personalized list of potential local resources to help me better maintain my independence in the community. Through SDBIF, I've participated in their "Day of Art," connected with local resources for wheelchair transport, participated in peer-support groups and met a host of supportive friends living with brain injury and their cheerleaders...er caregivers. I'm very grateful for this local resource and grateful for the map they created for me to help me better navigate life after injury. Now I don't feel alone.

After years of struggling to get help for repetitive head injury from electroconvulsive therapy, I connected with San Diego Brain Injury Foundation. I wish I'd met them a decade ago! Within minutes they'd helped brainstorm transportation issues. Later they connected me with a variety of resources I didn't even know existed. The personalized needs assessment helped me brainstorm supports that have improved my quality of life. I'm so grateful for Kurt and the others at SDBIF. Now I don't feel alone in navigating the world of brain injury.
