Hi, I am Sarina Malik, a dancer from Manila, Philippines. I am sixteen years old and participated in this year’s Train the Trainer program. It is just phenomenal to see how the MindLeaps syllabus can lift these children out of such pain into a safe place where they can move freely. Within this safe space of smiles come the seven essential skills that are developed through dance; grit, teamwork, creativity, discipline, memorisation, self-esteem and language. These skills are needed to go through life with resilience and open doors of opportunity. With the use of an online tracker system, dance trainers are able to grade these kids through naturalistic observation, and quantifying qualities seen into a scale from 1-7. It is incredible to see how in just a few classes, these skills grow exponentially, and bring motivation for these skills to go to school. This program changed my views on the beauty of dance, given its universal, and equalising powers, that enable the youth to feel self value, and hope. I believe we are wired to be creative, thus creativity and self expression is what society seems to forget when feeling troubled. Mindleaps can truly change the world, and be the start of a new perspective on healing, bringing opportunities, and building communities. I am for their mission, and am inspired, as a representative of the youth myself, to bring forth possibilities for our future. Thank you Mindleaps
