I wouldn’t recommend this company to guide you with legal services. They have no idea how to keep you safe they are only able to provide you with the basics of how to file for orders of protection. Most things in court require the contact of your abuser which could lead to your abuser finding you stalking you or even attacking. The staff I met with today called me over sensitive when I because concerned that I didn’t have an appointment with them they didn’t even know I was coming in. The front desk staff took call after call then made negative comments about how I am lucky to get an appointment cause someone canceled. I wasn’t treated with respect at all. I can’t express how not helpful Laura’s house staff was today they didn’t offer me even a friendly place to come talk about my on going case that’s 10 years. I’m very afraid of Laura’s house giving advice to women that might be the legally correct situation for them but not worth the risk violations of protection orders happen all the time protection orders will not keep you safe you need to be full educated on how orders can also cause harm ! I felt that if I did what Laura’s house recommends as steps to protect myself I would be in more danger . Laura’s house might not be a good option if you have a serious physical threat . It wasn’t helpful for me at all. In fact I wonder how much they make on the shelter that seem to be what they push clients into the most I’m not in a shelter need but I definitely don’t have an agency supporting me and my situation.
