Review for Global Links, Pittsburgh, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Global Links is an incredible organization that collects and distributes useable discarded medical supplies from local area hospitals to partner hospitals and medical centers in the Caribbean and Central America.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the photographs they have of patients sleeping in refurbished hospital beds, of medical staff using donated sterile medical gloves, in the full boxes volunteers pack each week to send useable supplies to partnering hospitals and medical centers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

be the luckiest person in the world.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the immense gratification of knowing that the supplies we are preparing for shipment are badly needed and knowing that Global Links has so directly reduced landfill by soliciting discarded supplies and redirecting them to places in need.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extremely passionate about the mission of Global Links.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

pay its employees better and service more medical centers in need by increasing their volunteer staff and by expanding the number of hospitals from which they solicit discarded supplies.

Ways to make it better...

I had discovered Global Links years earlier. I wish I had already spent more time volunteering for such a worthy organization.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

working with such a small budget.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the volunteer program is run very efficiently. The projects are always well-thought out, and I feel that not a minute of my time or energy is wasted. The volunteer coordinator always makes sure that the volunteers understand the significance of their work.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & date sort, categorize, and box up supplies for shipments.
