My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for High Fives Nonprofit Foundation, Truckee, CA, USA
I endured a spinal chord injury in 2003 and spent many years feeling as if I had lost my identity. I had grown up skiing and many of my fondest memories where made on the ski hill with friends and family. It was not until 2012 that I came across a video showcasing a sit skier named Josh Dueck in the backcountry skiing terrain I never would have thought possible. It was in that moment that I decided I needed to get back to the mountains. Since then I have spent my winters honing my skills and along the way have damaged myself and a fair bit of equipment. High Fives has graciously accepted my application to fund the replacement of the faring on my sit ski, and for this I am incredibly grateful. As a disabled athlete, requiring expensive adaptive equipment can be a real economic hurdle. If it wasn't for this incredible foundation, I may have been out of luck in getting back to the sport I love so much.
