Review for Food & Water Action, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been working with Food & Water Action for over 3 years now. There are many organizations working on environmental conservation these days. And they are are all good at what they do. So it is just a matter of finding the people with whom you wish to work. I love those at the NYC office as family.
F & W A works with all of the activists in the climate justice movement. Sometimes as lead, sometimes as support, but always as fellow travelers. My favorite was risking arrest at the NY State Capitol. It was important to me to know that the organizers had my back- with proper NVDA training and lawyers standing by. Many groups were involved in the organizing, training and action. All of my needs for safety were checked off. I was able to trust my fellow travelers on the journey and fight for environmental justice.

Review for Food & Water Watch, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

5 years ago I started to look for an organization working for social justice I could be a part of as an activist. I wanted a community of caring people with a high level of professionalism. I wanted an organization where I could participate in NVDA with sufficient resources to get the best lawyers when arrested!

In the last few years the effectiveness of F & WW actions has been profound. From the Monday calls to Governor Cuomo to pickets in front of wherever we find him in and around the city. And then standing firmly behind the leadership when one of them confronts Cuomo face to face. F & WW helped get fracking banned in NY State!

The NYC chapter of F & WW is a diverse group that reflects the city itself. It is a welcoming place. There is no clique culture. I like the monthly meetings and occasional party.

Most of the environmental groups work together on the issues of environmental justice , so I miss very little with my focus here.

I can be as active as I want. I can stay away and then come back and be just as welcomed. Not being a creature of habit, this works well for me. Sometimes I wish there were more civil disobedience actions, but that is mostly my own impatience with the state of denial of our governmental leaders. (I'm a Baby Boomer who demonstrated against the Viet Nam war, nuclear power plants, Secretary Califano, et al. Deja vu all over again?)
