My daughter made a comment about how angry I was when they were growing up and that she felt I still carried that anger. After thinking long and hard, I realized that anger came from childhood sexual trauma at age 5. After 52 years of pent up anger, I felt it was finally time to get to the cause of it and heal. I decided it was time to attend a Healing Warrior Hearts (HWH) retreat with my beloved service dog, Sophie (see photo).

It was very powerful to have staff members role play to help me release that anger. After my process work was complete I felt a huge weight off my shoulders. I was given tools to help me deal with trauma triggers, which are becoming less and less. I feel a big change in my life, I’m happier with my life and my relationships with my children.

Something positive about HWH’s is that I now know I am not alone. I also have a group of veterans and community volunteers that are like family. HWH has helped me to learn the skills to continue my journey of healing. I will be referring people to the program.
