As a passionate animal lover and great ape enthusiast I look for opportunities that allow me to be of service. After following The Center for Great Apes (CGA) efforts for some time, I joined as a member. The second I stepped through the gates in what could only be described as the “Garden of Eden” I was in awe! I knew I wanted to do more & am so lucky to have been given the opportunity to serve as a volunteer. Every month for the past three years I have travelled from New Jersey to Wachula, Florida, to be a part of and witness firsthand the important work that they do.

CGA is truly an incredible organization that provides permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been retired from different backgrounds. From its creation in 1993 CGA has been providing a safe, loving, healthy and enriching environment ensuring that their fifty-two residents’ lives are joyful, fun and above all as natural as possible!

I have been privileged to work alongside some of the most selfless and dedicated caregivers, office staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to provide individualized enrichment programs, nutrition plans and rehabilitation for each ape.

In my role as a volunteer, I have been fortunate to take part in producing enrichment materials, preparing meals, cleaning enclosures, supporting fundraising efforts, celebrating special occasions and so much more.

This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and with continued support, I have no doubt that CGA will continue to enrich the lives of Orangutans and Chimpanzees for as long as there is the need.
