My friends and I had heard of Community Seva, but when we finally got to volunteer, it was such an eye opener.
We volunteered at a San Jose shelter for the homeless, under a team lead from Community Seva. The whole exercise was carried out so efficiently, yet cheerfully. The team lead brought the ingredients and gave us precise instructions - how and what to cook, and how and when to serve. Nathan dropped off some ice cream as a special treat for the residents.
The experience that followed is certainly one of the most memorable, for each one of us in the group. Among about 15 of us, our funds helped prepare and serve about 300 meals at five shelters in the Bay Area. We still have a hard time wrapping our head around that number.
We are so inspired by Nathan and his team of dedicated volunteers that we're determined to be part of this movement to help provide meals to the homeless.
Community Seva is doing such a great job and as more of us join them, I can't help hope for the ultimate - that maybe, just maybe there could be a solution to end hunger after all.
