Review for Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary, German Valley, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Outside of a zoo, I've yet to come across a sanctuary or rescue that takes care of such a wide variety of animal species. There are plenty of rescues out there that take in dogs and cats, and quite a few dedicated to a single species such as rabbits, Guinea pigs, or ferrets, but very few that take various species of exotic pets. Beth cares for more than 25 different species of exotic pets ranging from mice and hamster to macaws, lizards to large tortoises, and sugar gliders to degus, raccoons, and foxes. Most of the animals that wind up at Critter Camp are there because they're old, sick, or have behavioral problems that make them unadoptable. Beth and her volunteers do their best to give these animals a comfortable and happy life with the vet care they need.

As someone who rescues unwanted sugar gliders, I truly appreciate the work Beth does at Critter Camp. To my knowledge, there are no other pet sanctuaries like it. She only takes exotics. Over the years they've cared for animals from more than 30 different species, and usually have more than 200 animals at any given time. From mice to kinkajou's, lizards to large breed tortoises, cockatiels to macaws, pigs, gliders, ferrets, and foxes and just about everything in between. These aren't usually animals that can be adopted out again. They're the ones no one wants because they are either old, ill, or too aggressive. Yet she takes them all in, gets them the medical care they need, and treats them with love. Anyone willing to do this for so many different animals is a hero in my book!

I truly appreciate the work that Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary does. There are very few rescues that actually do what she does. Most are limited to one single species. However, Critter Camp has cared for over 30 different species over the years ranging from mice and sugar gliders to large breed tortoises, foxes, and macaws. They take in those pets that cannot be adopted out due to behavioral issues, the sick, and the elderly, and care for them until the end of their natural lives. So thankful for these people and work they do!
