Review for YWAM MBI dba Mission Builders International, Lakeside, MT, USA

Rating: 5 stars

YWAM Mission Builders is a great opportunity if you have a “yes” in your heart to serve the Lord no matter what that would look like! Their primary goal of “lifting the arms” of long-term missionaries carries such a huge amount of honor to serve even in the smallest things — knowing that we get to partner with their ministry around the world even without being there directly portray such beauty that we get to work together as the body of Christ for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God! Another perk is that by saying “yes” to serving, you get to work with amazing Jesus-loving, kind-hearted, and fun people as you get to grow together with fellow believers in your relationship with the Lord as you serve Him together.

As a YWAM mission builder, I committed 8 weeks of service in the YWAM Chico California base.

YWAM Chico is filled with a community-based group of people who treat each other just as Jesus would and pray for each others’ growth and breakthrough! If you want to be surrounded and grow with Jesus-longs, servant-hearted, kind-hearted, and fun, awesome people as you yourself walk and grow with the Lord in a base filled with His presence — this is the place to be!! It has been an honor to serve with such amazing people and I wouldn’t trade this time for anything!

LIFE LESSONS LEARNED:

SERVANT-HEARTED HOSPITALITY
As a mission builder, I was placed in the Hospitality Department of the base to help out with what they do around the campus. Basically, since this particular base hosts a lot of conferences, camps, or programs all throughout summer, it is the hospitality department’s responsibility to make sure that guest housings are well taken care of.

I usually spend most of my 40 hours/week volunteer hours making beds, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, vacuuming, and making the cabins look nice and homey for the upcoming guests, and when they leave, do it all over again for the next ones! It also includes setting up coffee, tea and snacks for the staff/students/volunteers everyday for coffee break.

This has been teaching me a lot of what it means and looks like to have a servant-heart because these are jobs that not a lot of people commonly feel the desire to do and I myself have had to stop and remind myself of WHY i’m doing this and for WHO i’m doing this for. Obviously, the enemy tried a lot to put lies into my head with saying that I could be doing better stuff with my time — and yet the Holy Spirit is always there too, quick to gently remind and encourage me of Ephesians 6:5-8, which says:

“Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.” Ephesians 6:5-8 ESV

I get encouraged with the reminder that I am doing this not for man, but for the Lord and for His people. It may not look like what my ministry did in the past season — like going out into the nations and preaching the Gospel — but like Jesus came down to earth to serve and not to be served (Matt. 20:28), that is exactly what i’m doing, and I wouldn’t trade this time for anything.

STEWARDING TIME
It has actually been such a great use of time. That while I go about doing some cleaning and preparing, I get to spend a lot of that time just talking to the Lord as well. It opened a space for me to practice praying without ceasing — that even though I go and do regular everyday jobs, I can still steward that time and use it to pray and intercede for people and build intimacy with the Lord.
