Review for Rocky Mountain French Bulldog Rescue, Boulder, CO, USA
I’m the proud dog mom of Luna. She is a RMFBR alum. I knew I wanted a frenchie but was adamant that I didn’t want to buy a mill puppy. I knew that I wanted to rescue but also that I wanted a frenchie. With their big personalities and couch dog like tendencies, I had been looking at rescues for months. In the process o accidentally adopted a special needs kitten and decided to wait until he was old enough to hold his own against a dog. About 3 months later, I happened across a post from RMFBR in my Facebook feed. This adorable pied frenchie holding her favorite toy in her mouth looking expectantly over the edge of the couch. I instantly fell in love. I stopped and read the post carefully. “Urgent foster needed!”. I looked through the profile and realized that this gorgeous girl was Luna, a 3 yr old frenchie girl who was good with everyone and everything. Including cats. She was perfect. As I kept reading I read that she was paraplegic and incontinent and would need some special love. I had already fallen in love so I immediately emailed the rescue and filled out the paperwork. Within two days, she arrived from Virginia. Kelly and o met for the first time and we talked about what it would mean to foster a paralyzed frenchie.
Within two days of Luna’s arrival, I knew she was the pup I’d been looking for. Sweet as can be and full of joy and energy. She’s been my best girl ever since. That was more than 3 years ago. Since then we’ve gotten her a fancy cart to help keep her legs moving and getting exercise. She’s gone viral a few times with the video about her new cart.
A few months ago, we welcomed Dozer, a 2 year old frenchie, in as a foster. He and Luna played often and he was a sweet and VERY energetic boy. They almost matched in their markings. We loved on him for a little over a month and then we found him a forever home with a lovely young couple here in Denver. He is very well loved and taken care of there. He was such a joy to have and knowing that he is getting so much love and attention and that we found him the right home was the most overwhelming experience. We struggled at first with some training and Kelly helped find a trainer who came to my home and worried with us. We saw an instant change on his behavior. Such a doll.
Currently, our house is the temporary home to Bruno. Bruno is a 7 year old former breeding dog. He spent most of his life (from what we know) in some sort of a cage. Beyond all reason, he is one of the sweetest most loving dogs I’ve ever met. He just wants all of your attention and love. He is attached to me, absolutely everywhere I go. While we are currently working on sorting his medical issues, he is going to be a really special dog for some lucky person or family. In the process of his many vet visits, RMFBR has found the most amazing vet and she has been in contact making sure everything works for both Bruno and myself.
This rescue gave me my best friend. And then showed me that I could do more by helping out with fostering. I’ve volunteered at events to educate people about what it means to be owned by a frenchie and what their special needs are. She has turned me into an advocate of proper breed education. Honestly, even my own mother has said, I’m more understanding, patient and mature person thanks to my adopting Luna.
Thank you Kelly for all you do and for making my life so much better having met you.
