Review for Rose of Sharon Equestrian School, Inc., Glen Arm, MD, USA
I am a staff member at Broadmead, Inc retirement community and have joined the residents from long term care for equine therapy at the Rose of Sharon. When the residents are escorted off of the bus and enter the barn the wonder begins. Warm and smiling faces of the volunteers greeted us and the horses were waiting in their stalls. Each resident was received and taken to a horse and shown how to groom them. Different stories take place: words of love from a resident to a horse, memories spill out, a resident stands tall in the stall confident in his brushing.
Each resident has a dementia diagnosis often with short term memory loss; but many of the residents remember the horses names and talk about the experience afterwards.
