Review for Global Links, Pittsburgh, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I am familiar with globalinks for now over 12 years. While I have seen many organizations collecting unused medical material or supplies for developing countries, Globalinks is outstanding by its ability to combine environment friendly processing and matching of donors needs. Many others NGOs collect the equipement, they barely clean it and "dump it"on health facilities in poorer countries. Instead of being destroyed safely in the US, the medicines and material, which in most cases in unsusable or inappropriate, are discarder in hazardous conditions or clogged the corridors of the hospitals and warehouses. GlobaLinks is standing out by its genuine concern for quality, appropriateness of the equipement and its support in terms of spareparts. Reusable surgical supplies instead of being lost sometimes without being used once are benefitting of an extended life. Environment and patients both benefit!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

extending the life of medical equipement and supplies. It reduced the amount discarded and permitted a long term recycling.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

explore the possiiblity of geographically expanding my catching area and perhaps processing heavy specialized medical equipement (Xray, ct scan, etc)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

They measure their success in achivements and satisfaction end of the linbe not in volume or artifical value estimates.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

small number but highly motivated for quality control

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reduce considerably teh volume of perfectly usable and good medical material and supplies daily destroyed or discarded in the US while providing assistance in selected countries with responsible users.

Ways to make it better...

they could adquire the expertise and skill to do the same for high tech expensive diagnosis medical equipement.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of resources as usual.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I wish I could visit them more often and systematically evalauate their impact!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
