Review for Read to a Child , Wellesley, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

During the time I was organizing The America Reads Challenge I organized the U. S. Department of Education's partnership with Everybody Wins! for two years and served as a volunteer myself. I also periodically read with Senators Kennedy and Jeffords and their students. I watched this program light a fire in children's eyes regarding that tough subject called "reading"...it became exciting and they were eager each week after a while to show me how they were reading so much better and also understood what they were reading! I now serve as the President of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) and work in collaboration with Everybody Wins; some RIF staff serve as Everybody Wins volunteers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I myself have probably not improved in my attitude toward reading because it is sky high, I don't know that my personal reading ability has improved but I do know I am inspired regularly by what I see Everybody Wins! accomplishing throughout the country.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find ways to expand it...it works!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Watching the children become excited about reading!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated and becoming advocates for children's literacy.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

serve many more children who need this extra boost in order to build a solid literacy skills base.

Ways to make it better...

I could have given the children books to own.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Resources for expansion.
