Review for Canvass for a Cause, San Diego, CA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

This "non-profit organization" is a sham. They're a for profit business. NONE of their money reaches actual non profits. All of it goes to Tres, the building he works in, and employees. The executive Director Tres Watson has physically harassed employees, withheld checks from employees, lied to donors, and been kicked off of the Equality California Door to Door campaign because of his lack of ethics. I left Canvass for a Cause when Equality California (EQCA),the ONLY group that has access to voter files that would even work with him, decided to not even accept volunteers from his organization. See, Canvass for a Cause was originally supposed to support nearby organizations with their efforts. We would be in the streets asking for money from people so we could actively recruit volunteers for another organization's event and be donated staff to that event. Unfortunately, after Canvass for a Cause was booted from working with EQCA, Tres told me that I shouldn't leave becasue I couldn't work on my "pet project". Pet project? People are wasting their money on a poor campaign that can't be used to help the next legitimate ballot campaign in 2012. Why is this? Tres tried to tell me "well, a persuasion is a persuasion", I told him it isn't enough. We CANNOT waste our time talking to people who aren't registered voters! A voter file lets you know who in the household is a voter, their age, name, and even political party. Without this vital information at the door, we skip people, get incorrect information, and can't share it with the next campaign. Equality California has set out to change 800 minds this year, and those minds are voters. Specific voters in specific areas with specific demographics. With such little time and very few volunteers we have to use our time on the voters that are the most likely to vote in the next election and the most likely to change their minds. Tres has NONE of this information and is a scam artist. If I could give this organization negative starts I would.
