I began hearing about this organization as I was getting to know the McCormick community and began seeing regular updates about the animals in their care and the work they are doing. They were written with such care and excitement about each individual dog and cat, by name, that it was clear that this is a labor of love by some incredible people. I was drawn to the website and was unexpectedly taken in by a photo of Budee, a 10-year (?) old beagle, who was being fostered and looking for a home. His personality, likes and needs were described in a way that proved that he was with people who knew him and loved him, and in a way that made me want to know and love him, too. I inquired about his compatability with cats (as we had a senior manx already), and instead of a quick email, I received a phone call and answers to all questions or concerns I had. It ended with an appointment to meet and possibly schedule a weekend visit. Those events were followed by adoption. Because he was so exactly described, he fit immediately into our household, as though he has always been with us.

Throughout the process it was clear that the animals' well-being was first and foremost. From the meeting, interview process, forms and questionnaire through references and ID verification.... everything was thoroughly and thoughtfully considered to ensure they were placing Budee well. We have had some follow up, and some follow Budee on facebook (#budeethebeagle) and comment still.

I follow this group on Facebook also, and continue to be impressed by the efforts of this largely volunteer organization, as well as their successes. They are constantly creating new programs and opportunities for the community to contribute to the welfare of the animals, so that everyone can take part in their amazing mission.
