I first learned about KHS in 2014 as a result of their field trip program and quickly fell in love with the program, spending almost every day of our Kauai vacations taking dogs out for the day. When Mirah Horowitz became their new Executive Director in 2018, I took on a more active role at KHS even though I don't live on Kauai, volunteering remotely to help with their transfer program as well as working on grant applications for them. Being in the animal welfare sector is difficult, but KHS's obstacles are amplified as a result of a limited on-island population and increased shipping costs to get vital supplies to their location. In spite of being faced with severely limited resources, KHS steps up every day to do the absolute best they can to serve the animals of Kauai. I'm happy to get to help be a small part of their lifesaving efforts and believe they are doing a great job making a difference in the lives of Kauai's animals!
